Research

All the researches conducted were the first of their kind in Croatia, data were often cited by the media, experts, institutions and associations and the conclusions to which we have come were used to create educational and prevention programs and campaigns.

 

* The importance of gender in attitudes and sexual behavior of adolescents

Research conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization in the 4 largest cities in Croatia included a category of gender in adolescent sexuality research for the first time.

About half of the respondents believe that the desires of young men in a sexual relationship are primarily oriented to the physical aspects of sexuality, while the perceptions of sexual desire of girls, respondents equally reported both physical and emotional priorities and the combination of emotional and physical aspects of sexual relations.

 

* Violence in Adolescent Relationships

According to data from surveys conducted in 2004 and 2006 more than two thirds of adolescents said they had experienced that a person with whom they were in a relationship behaved violently, a little less than half of respondents in relationship behaved aggressively at least once towards the partner.

Results of research conducted in 2006 surveying 1,000 high school students from 42 cities in Croatia in order to better understand the needs and problems of youth and create better quality of education and prevention programs and campaigns, have been published in the research report "VIOLENCE DOES NOT PASS BY ITSELF."

 

* Men and gender equality

CESI participates in the international project "Men and Gender Equality Policy" coordinated by Instituto Promundo from Brazil and the International Center for Research on Women from the United States, more than ten countries participate in this project.

We conduct first research on masculinities in of Croatia that encompasses various aspects of life of men: from childhood, school, family, workplace, parenting, sexuality, health, quality of life, and violence to the attitude towards equality between men and women.
