Workshops to help Roma women fare better on the labour market

The Zagreb branch of the Croatia Employment Service started a project entitled "Better perspective for Roma women on the labour market". The aim of the project is to empower Roma women, and encourage them to participate more actively in both the labour market, and society at large. Furthermore, a special center for providing support, advice and information called CASI "Romani" is being set up. CESI is one of the partner organizations on this project. In addition, the project is supported by the City of Zagreb, and the Croatian Roma Women's Association "Bolja budućnost" ("A Better Future").

In February, Tajana Broz and Anamarija Gospočić of the CESI organization held a series of workshops entitled "Building confidence, increasing motivation, getting ready to actively seek employment". The main goal of the program was developing basic communication and presentation skills, which are a prerequisite for finding work. The program was successfully completed by 31 women, who claim to be quite satisfied. Here is how some of them described their experience of the workshops: "I think this workshop would be very useful to anyone looking for a job. It is both enjoyable and educational!" ; "I believe that this workshop was quite useful, and helped Roma women understand they have the same rights as everyone else".
