Preparatory meeting "Anna Lindh Forum 2010" held in Muenchen
Cities, migrants and diversity-opportunities for dialogue
In the framework of the "Anna Lindh Forum 2010", the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures (ALF) have organised the preparatory meeting "Cities, Migrants and diversity: valuing diversity, understanding migrations" in cooperation with the Foundation's Head of National Network in Germany - the Goethe-Institut in Munich, Germany, from 10 to 13 February 2010. CESI representative Gordana Obradović Dragišić also participated in meeting where more then 50 participants form 30 countries discussed migration and drafted the recommendations.
Diversity and Migrations are one of the major challenges in the Euromed area. In the context of the rapid internalization of economics and culture, globalization creates an important and constant increase of the international migrations. The Euro Mediterranean region is one of the most important corridors of this mobility, and the traditional north south challenges are moving to a more complex situation in dealing with intercultural dialogue and mutual perceptions: emigration countries, receiving societies are facing similar major challenges in terms of managing diversity and multiple identities.
During the meeting, the Anna Lindh Foundation aims to address migration and diversity as elements providing new scenarios for dialogue, where the migrant is a key actor for the construction of a multicultural coexistence and can be a bridge between countries of origin and hosting societies. Through the meeting, the Foundation will provide a space for dialogue and exchange of ideas and best practices in the fields of migration and intercultural dialogue.
The meeting gathered a wide range of persons and organisations working in such fields and bringing to the debate diversity of perspectives (personal migrant background, variety of national situations within the global flux of migrations, organisations working directly with migrants in the field, doing advocacy and support to migrants and refugees, researchers, local authorities programmes in urban development, cultural and artistic projects related to migration issues), with the objective to promote and spread notions of acceptance and tolerance among the people of the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The outcomes of the meeting will serve as recommendations to be addressed during the "Anna Lindh Forum 2010" and other activities/ programmes to be launched by the Anna Lindh Foundation.
