Concert held in Velika Gorica on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day
Loud and clear! Sexual rights are human rights!
On the eve of celebrating the International Human Rights Day CESI warns that sexual rights are human rights. Recognition, promotion and respect for sexual rights is ESSENTIAL particularly for the young people providing for them to live their sexuality healthy, responsible and happy while these rights serve as a basis for combating discrimination. Young people are sexual beings who have the right to information, education, health services adjusted to their needs, protection and participation in decision making.
The fact that the Republic of Croatia does not promote, does not recognize and does not respect the sexual and reproductive rights of young people is evident, for there is no sexual education in schools, no youth-friendly clinics and counseling for young people about sexual and reproductive health, and no easily available and inexpensive contraception. Current services are inadequate and insufficient for 570 000 young people living in Croatia. Sexual and reproductive rights of young people are a part of the UN Charter on the Rights of the Child, and government's obligation to respect these rights is prescribed in several national documents.
On that occasion, on the eve of the Human Rights Day, CESI and NOVI ZVUK organized a concert on December 3rd, 2009 at KLUB 100 in Velika Gorica as part of SEX na EX campaign which is carried out in collaboration with young musicians who promote sexual health and rights of young people. Following bands performed on the concert: KARAMBOL (Vinkovci), THP (Osijek), POPPER (Zagreb), and DARWIN (Zagreb). Leaflets on the importance of preserving sexual health have been distributed on the concert while the Velika Gorica crew was beeing entertained by Novi zvuk. The campaign was supported by representatives of local authorities and institutions who have visited the concert and helped in organizing the event.
