GEA CONFERENCE IN LONDON

Nataša Bijelić from CESI attended Gender and Education Association's 7th International Conference entitled "Gender: Regulation and Resistance in Education" from 25-27 March 2009 in London, UK. The conference was organized by the Institute of Education, University of London. 

The delegates addressed gender and feminism at every level of educational practice, including politics, theorizing, policy creation, research methodologies, pedagogical engagement and grass-roots activism and struggle. With over 300 delegates from across the globe conference created a dynamic space for dialogue about gender and education. The conference sessions were organized around different themes such as "Sex education", Masculinity and Teaching", "Gender and Behaviour", "Queer pedagogies", "Girls, Gender, Identity"...etc. 

Nataša Bijelić from CESI was the only delegate from Croatia and her presentation was entitled "Sex Education in Croatia - Gender Regulation through Religion". The presentation explored the influence of the Catholic Church on educational policy, more specifically on sex education. I spoke about the process of attempted introduction of a sex education programme into Croatian schools. Presentation initiated a lively discussion. The audience was shocked with the presented contents of proposed discriminatory programme of sex education.
