The first public discussion on teen-dating violence entitled "Silence is not Golden" was held in Osijek at the High- school for Building and Geodesy. In this school a group of students with their teacher Biljana Barišić is shooting a film on teen-dating violence. Guest speaker, besides CESI's experts, was a well-known theatre actress Nela Kočiš from Osijek. She spoke about the importance of dealing with this problem. There were around 150 students present at the public discussion. Some of them came from other schools from Osijek and some of them were from the town of Beli Manastir. Students actively participated in the discussion and had many questions on teen-dating violence. They brought up the examples of their peers in violent relationships and made enquiries about what they can do to help. They were also interested in when will sex education become a part of the school curriculum because of the increased rate of teen pregnancies in their communities. The time was the only limit for our lively discusssion. At the end, the conclusion was that they want to learn more about this problem. We can only hope that the Ministry of Education will be sensitized in the near future to fulfill their needs.
